This quaint 17th century building is half bridge / half house. Straddling Stock Beck, this petite stone structure is one of the most photographed landmarks in the Lake District.
The Bridge House was originally built as an apple store for Ambleside Hall, a nearby manor. Its unique location above the beck was a clever solution to evade local land taxes. Over the centuries, the building has served various purposes, including a family home with just two tiny rooms
Today, the Bridge House is under the care of the National Trust and serves as a small information hub for visitors to Ambleside.
